In a nutshell

UX at Picnic covers many topics: from the apps that control automated warehouses, to an e-commerce platform and even physical products like our custom built electric vehicle. As a distributed group of UX designers and thinkers, we come together to align and ensure an unprecedented customer experience in e-commerce. We design and build the full scope of our end-to-end service ourselves.

As a UX Graduation Intern you will help the Consumer app team by sharing your fresh perspective, conducting user research and developing concrete solutions to a specific user need/problem. The Consumer app team shapes all shopping interactions within our mobile app used by hundreds of thousands on a daily basis. We design features in collaboration with our users that truly fit their everyday needs.

Tricks of the trade

As a UX Graduation Intern at Picnic you have the opportunity to work on a specific project and get a realistic taste of working as a design professional.

During your graduation at Picnic you will:

green dot
Design: Have the autonomy to own the design features from beginning to end
green dot
Build prototypes: Build low and high fidelity prototypes to be tested and evaluated on a weekly basis with real users
green dot
Develop your skills: Learn and grow through the continuous feedback and mentoring by more experienced UX designers and researchers
green dot
Continuous improvement: Continuously explore new ideas in order to initiate new projects and improvements, design is never done

Examples of a relevant challenges:

green dot
Grocery Shopping Reimagined: Design intuitive solutions that transform weekly shopping from a mental burden to an effortless experience. How might we use pattern recognition, smart defaults, or predictive features to reduce cognitive load?
green dot
Planning for Family Life: Design a solution that transforms how families plan their weekly food needs. In a world where schedules change and spontaneous decisions happen, how might we create a flexible planning experience that adapts to life's uncertainties? Help customers to feel organized without feeling constrained.
green dot
Smart Budget Shopping: Design features that empower cost-conscious shoppers without compromising experience. How might we help customers optimize their spending while still discovering products they'll love?
green dot
Decision-Making: Reimagine product comparison in a mobile app context. How might we present complex information (nutrition, sustainability, value) in ways that facilitate confident choices without overwhelming users?
green dot
Personalized Nutrition: Create experiences that help users align grocery shopping with their health ambitions. How might we transform abstract nutritional goals into actionable shopping guidance that feels supportive rather than restrictive?
green dot
Returns service: Customers can hand in their recyclables and return parcels with us. We keep on expanding this service, which now includes PostNL/DHL parcels, cans, bottles, and in the future maybe glass waste. How could we improve the customer experience of the returns service, while keeping the work manageable for our Runners? Turn a traditionally frustrating experience (returns and recycling) into a meaningful moment that strengthens customer relationships while supporting sustainability goals.
green dot
Social aspect: Explore how social connections might enhance online grocery shopping. How might we incorporate social elements that create community, encourage discovery, or facilitate shared household shopping without adding complexity?

We would love to hear from you what topic you envision working on! We encourage you to already think of a specific challenge that you would like to pick up during your internship. Please use the context above to get inspired about possible challenges, but also feel free to come up with your own.
